Vildapride M 500 mg Tablet contains Metformin (500mg) + Vildagliptin (50mg). It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor + Biguanide class of medicines.

Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose without causing significant hypoglycaemia when used alone.

How to take Vildapride M 500 mg Tablet

Oral tablet; take as prescribed, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew if it is SR/ER. Take at the same time each day and monitor blood glucose as advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of VILDApride M 500mg/50mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Vildapride M than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Most side effects of Vildapride M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• hypoglycaemia (especially with insulin/sulfonylureas)
• upper respiratory tract infection

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription only. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, alcohol excess, liver disease, or heart failure; stop and seek urgent care if deep/rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness occurs. Avoid/withhold around iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Check renal function before and during therapy; dose adjustments/avoidance required in reduced eGFR. Monitor for pancreatitis (severe persistent abdominal pain), hepatitis/jaundice, and vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term metformin. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, other antidiabetics (insulin/sulfonylureas—hypoglycaemia risk), ACE inhibitors/ARBs (may enhance glucose-lowering), CYP/P-gp significant interactions are not prominent for vildagliptin

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Vildapride M 500 mg Tablet

Take it in addition to regular exercise and a healthy diet to lower levels of blood sugar. Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, as VILDApride M 500mg/50mg Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Your doctor may check your kidney and liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, darkened urine, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
