Vilazodone is an antidepressant that increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting serotonin reuptake (SSRI). It also partially stimulates serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, which may help improve mood and anxiety symptoms.
Take as prescribed by the doctor. Usually taken once daily with food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset. Swallow tablet whole with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Risk of suicidal thoughts/behaviour especially in young adults; monitor for mood/behaviour changes. Do not use with MAO inhibitors (or within 14 days) due to serotonin syndrome risk. Serotonin syndrome may occur with other serotonergic drugs; seek urgent help for agitation, fever, tremor, diarrhea. May cause abnormal bleeding especially with NSAIDs/anticoagulants, may cause hyponatremia (more in elderly/diuretics). Use caution in seizure disorder, bipolar disorder/mania, liver disease. Do not stop abruptly—taper to avoid withdrawal symptoms. May cause dizziness/somnolence; avoid driving if affected.
