Atenolol (25mg)
Ziblok 25 mg is used for treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and as add-on therapy in stable chronic heart failure; also used for rate control in certain tachyarrhythmias as prescribed.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Ziblok 25 mg contains Atenolol (25mg). It belongs to the Cardioselective beta-blocker (Beta-1 adrenergic blocker) class of medicines.
Metoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It reduces heart rate and the force of contraction, lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand. In heart failure, it helps improve cardiac function over time by reducing harmful sympathetic stimulation.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily for prolonged-release tablets. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. Can be taken with or without food, but take at the same time each day for best effect.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Ziblok 25 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Ziblok than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Ziblok are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Do not stop suddenly (may worsen angina/trigger heart attack); taper under medical supervision. Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may cause bronchospasm), diabetes (may mask low-sugar symptoms), thyroid disorders, peripheral vascular disease, and in patients with bradycardia, heart block, or acute decompensated heart failure. Monitor blood pressure and pulse; seek help if fainting, very slow pulse, wheezing, or worsening breathlessness/swelling occurs.
Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem/amiodarone/digoxin (bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (rebound hypertension if withdrawn improperly), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs (reduced BP effect), CYP2D6 inhibitors like fluoxetine/paroxetine/quinidine (increased metoprolol levels).
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
It may cause dizziness. If this happens to you, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. It can hide symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly. Do not stop taking Ziblok 25 Tablet suddenly as it can cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly, thereby increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
