Zilance 40 mg Tablet contains Esomeprazole 40 mg (as enteric-coated tablet). It belongs to the Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) class of medicines.

How Zilance 40 mg Tablet works

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It irreversibly blocks the gastric H+/K+ ATPase pump in stomach parietal cells, reducing acid secretion and allowing healing of acid-related damage.

How to take Zilance 40 mg Tablet

Oral tablet. Usually taken once daily, preferably 30–60 minutes before food (often before breakfast). Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. Duration and dose as prescribed; for H. pylori it is used with antibiotics.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause confusion, blurred vision, sweating and a fast heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Zilance 40 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Zilance are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Headache
• diarrhea
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• flatulence
• constipation
• dizziness

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term use may increase risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, bone fractures, kidney inflammation (interstitial nephritis) and certain infections (e.g., C. difficile). Seek medical advice if alarm symptoms occur (unintentional weight loss, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, blood in vomit/stool). May mask symptoms of gastric cancer; evaluation may be needed if symptoms persist.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin (INR changes), clopidogrel (reduced activation/antiplatelet effect), diazepam (increased levels), phenytoin (increased levels), digoxin (increased levels), methotrexate (increased levels at high dose), tacrolimus (increased levels), ketoconazole/itraconazole/posaconazole and iron salts (reduced absorption), atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced levels; avoid)

How to store Zilance 40 mg Tablet

Store below 25°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zilance 40 mg Tablet

Take it before breakfast, not after a meal. Eat smaller meals, avoid late dinners, raise the head of your bed and avoid smoking — these do as much as the tablet for reflux.
