Zolfresh 10 Tablet contains Zolpidem (10mg). It belongs to the Non-benzodiazepine hypnotic (imidazopyridine; GABA-A receptor modulator, Z-drug) class of medicines.

How Zolfresh 10 Tablet works

Zolpidem is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic (Z-drug) that enhances the effect of GABA at the GABA-A receptor (preferentially via the BZ1/omega-1 site). This reduces neuronal activity in the brain, helping induce sleep.

Most side effects of Zolfresh are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only sleep medicine. May cause next-day impairment—avoid driving/operating machinery until you know its effects. Risk of dependence, misuse and withdrawal; use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Can cause complex sleep behaviors (sleepwalking, sleep-driving); stop and seek medical advice if these occur. Avoid in severe liver impairment; use lower dose in elderly, debilitated patients, or mild–moderate hepatic impairment. Use caution in depression, history of substance use disorder, respiratory disease (sleep apnea/COPD), and in combination with other CNS depressants. Not recommended in children.

Do not take Zolfresh if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea, or severe liver disease. Not for anyone with a history of dependence, except under specialist supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids, sedating antihistamines, antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression; CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) may increase levels; CYP3A4 inducers (rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, St John’s wort) may reduce effect; caution with SSRIs/SNRIs and other sedatives; opioids increase risk of profound sedation and breathing problems

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zolfresh 10 Tablet

Your doctor has prescribed Zolfresh 10mg Tablet to help you fall asleep faster and sleep for longer. It is best taken without food, as a high-fat meal can reduce its absorption and effect. Take it 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime and only when you have time to sleep for at least 7 hours. It makes you feel dizzy the next morning. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It does not affect total sleep time. However, it reduces sleep onset time and frequency of awakening at night. Never share your medication with any other person who also has a sleep problem. Inform your doctor if your sleep doesn’t improve after 7 to 10 days of treatment. Stop taking medication and inform your doctor If you experience sleep driving or memory loss. Do not stop taking medication suddenly as it may lead to anxiety, mood changes, and restlessness.
