Sitagliptin 50 mg + Metformin (as Metformin Hydrochloride) 1000 mg tablets
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: to improve blood glucose control as an adjunct to diet and exercise, when dual therapy is appropriate
Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity in muscles. Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon, thereby lowering blood sugar with low risk of hypoglycaemia when used without insulin/secretagogues.
Oral tablets; take exactly as prescribed, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew if it is a modified-release form (confirm pack). Maintain diet and exercise; monitor blood glucose as advised.
Common side effects of ZUCATOR M 1000MG TAB may include:
Prescription-only antidiabetic. Risk of lactic acidosis with metformin (seek urgent care for fast breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, drowsiness). Avoid/use with caution in kidney impairment; assess eGFR before start and periodically—contraindicated in severe renal impairment. Temporarily stop before iodinated contrast studies or major surgery as advised. Sitagliptin: rare pancreatitis (severe persistent abdominal pain), hypersensitivity reactions, bullous pemphigoid; dose adjustment needed in renal impairment. Monitor vitamin B12 with long-term metformin use. Hypoglycaemia risk increases if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
