Composition of Zyloric 100 Tablet

Zyloric 100 Tablet contains Allopurinol (100mg). It belongs to the Xanthine oxidase inhibitor class of medicines.

How Zyloric 100 Tablet works

Allopurinol inhibits xanthine oxidase, the enzyme responsible for converting hypoxanthine and xanthine into uric acid. This reduces uric acid production and lowers serum and urinary urate levels, helping prevent crystal deposition and gout flares over time.

How to take Zyloric 100 Tablet

Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water and maintain good hydration. Do not stop suddenly; it is not used to treat an acute gout attack—continue during attacks if already on it, as advised by the doctor.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Zyloric Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can seriously suppress the bone marrow and damage the liver. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Zyloric 100 Tablet

Most side effects of Zyloric are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain
• headache
• drowsiness
• dizziness
• raised liver enzymes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of serious hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., severe skin rash/Stevens-Johnson syndrome/TEN); stop and seek urgent care if rash, fever, mouth sores or swelling occurs. Dose adjustment is needed in kidney impairment; monitor kidney function, liver enzymes and blood counts as advised. Start with low dose and titrate to reduce gout flare risk; prophylaxis with NSAID/colchicine may be recommended initially. Use caution in liver disease. Inform doctor if you have HLA-B*58:01 risk (higher risk in some Asian populations) or history of allopurinol allergy.

Do not take Zyloric if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active serious infection, or with severe liver or bone-marrow disease. Several of these medicines must not be used in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Azathioprine, mercaptopurine (severe toxicity—dose adjustment/avoid), warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect), theophylline, didanosine, ampicillin/amoxicillin (increased rash risk), thiazide diuretics (increased hypersensitivity risk), ACE inhibitors (increased hypersensitivity risk), ciclosporin, cyclophosphamide

How to store Zyloric 100 Tablet

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), in a dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zyloric 100 Tablet

Take Zyloric Tablet with food to avoid stomach upset. Drink plenty of fluids (2-3 liters) daily while on treatment with Zyloric Tablet. Notify your doctor if you develop a rash. This could be a sign of an allergy and should go away on discontinuing Zyloric Tablet. When you first start taking this medicine, you might have more gout attacks. Do not stop Zyloric Tablet even on having an acute attack of gout, as that could make an attack worse. Your doctor may check your liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, or stomach pain. Do not consume alcohol while taking this medicine, as it may cause your gout to flare up.
