Monograph
Abura 250 Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Abiraterone Acetate (250mg). It is used for prostate cancer. It belongs to the group of medicines called Prescription-only medicine.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Abura 250 Tablet are nausea, headache, dizziness and stomach upset. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Abura 250 Tablet works.
Prostate cancer
Most side effects of Abura are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. ABUra 250mg Tablet is to be taken on an empty stomach.
ABUra 250mg Tablet works by blocking an enzyme called CYP17, which is involved in the production of androgens (male hormones like testosterone). Since many prostate cancers rely on these hormones to grow, reducing their levels helps slow down or stop the cancer's progression. Essentially, ABUra 250mg Tablet cuts off the fuel supply that the cancer needs to thrive.
This is a prescription-only medicine. Take it exactly as your doctor has directed, for the period directed. Do not share it with anyone else, even if their symptoms seem the same. Tell your doctor about every other medicine, supplement and herbal product you take. Report any unexpected or severe symptom to your doctor rather than stopping on your own.
If you miss a dose of ABUra 250mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine may be harmful — seek medical advice immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
