Monograph
Retinol 1% w/v (topical serum)
Anti-ageing skincare for reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, improvement of photoageing, uneven skin tone, rough texture and appearance of enlarged pores
Retinol (a vitamin A derivative) is converted in the skin to retinoic acid, which increases cell turnover and normalizes keratinization. It also supports collagen production and reduces the appearance of fine lines, roughness and pigmentation over time.
For external use only. Apply a pea-sized amount to clean, completely dry face at night (start 2-3 nights/week, then increase as tolerated). Follow with moisturizer. Use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every morning. Avoid applying on broken/irritated skin and avoid eye/lip corners.
Dryness, peeling/flaking, redness, burning/stinging, irritation, itching, photosensitivity, temporary purging/acne flare
Patch test before first use. Start slowly to minimize irritation; do not combine initially with other strong actives (AHA/BHA peels, benzoyl peroxide, strong vitamin C) unless advised. Avoid use on eczema, sunburn, or broken skin. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling or blistering occurs. Increased sun sensitivity—daily sunscreen is essential. Not intended for use in children.
Concurrent use with other irritants/keratolytics (AHA/BHA, salicylic acid, glycolic acid), benzoyl peroxide (may inactivate/irritate; separate timing), topical alcohol/astringents, physical exfoliants; waxing/laser/peels may increase irritation
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light and heat. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
