Tablet
Bacterial infections in children such as ear infections (otitis media), sinusitis, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic breakdown, broadening its activity against resistant bacteria.
Dispersible tablet: dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water and give immediately. Dose and duration should be as prescribed by the doctor based on child’s weight and infection severity. Can be taken with food to reduce stomach upset; give doses at evenly spaced intervals and complete the full course.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, skin rash, urticaria, oral thrush, headache
Prescription-only antibiotic—use only for suspected/confirmed bacterial infections. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or history of severe hypersensitivity. Use with caution in liver disease; monitor if prolonged therapy (risk of cholestatic hepatitis). Dose adjustment may be required in kidney impairment. Stop and seek care if severe rash, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or severe/persistent diarrhoea occurs (possible C. difficile). May reduce effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase INR), methotrexate (increased toxicity), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), allopurinol (increased rash risk), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced active metabolite exposure), oral contraceptives (possible reduced efficacy—advise backup), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced response)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep tablets in original pack and out of reach of children.
