Monograph
Potassium Clavulanate (125mg) + Cefpodoxime (200mg)
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections
Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefpodoxime from enzymatic breakdown by resistant bacteria, improving coverage.
Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed. Usually taken with food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset; swallow whole with water. Complete the full course even if you feel better.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching, vaginal candidiasis, altered taste, raised liver enzymes
Do not use if allergic to cephalosporins, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), history of colitis/antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, and liver disease. Seek medical help for severe diarrhoea, allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), or jaundice. Not for viral infections; unnecessary use may reduce effectiveness.
Probenecid (may increase antibiotic levels), anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR), antacids/H2 blockers (may reduce cefpodoxime absorption), live oral vaccines such as typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effectiveness), other nephrotoxic drugs (caution)
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.
