Monograph
Cefbactum-Sb 1.5 Injection is a prescription medicine containing Sulbactam (500mg) + Cefoperazone (1000mg). It is used for bacterial infection, throat infection, chest infection, skin infection, urinary infection, ear and typhoid. It belongs to the group of medicines called Penicillin and Cephalosporin.
This is given by a doctor or a nurse. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Cefbactum-Sb 1.5 Injection are loose motions, nausea, rash and vomiting. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Cefbactum-Sb 1.5 Injection works.
Most side effects of Cefbactum-Sb are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
This is given by a doctor or a nurse. Do not attempt to inject it yourself unless you have been trained and told to. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Sulbactam and Cefoperazone. Sulbactam kills the bacteria causing your infection by breaking down the wall they need to survive. Cefoperazone kills the bacteria causing your infection by destroying the cell wall that holds them together.
Finish the whole course even after you feel better. Stopping early lets the strongest bacteria survive, and they are the ones that come back resistant. Stop and seek emergency care for swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or a widespread rash — a penicillin allergy can be serious. Tell every doctor and pharmacist if you have ever reacted to penicillin. Tell your doctor if loose motions become severe or watery, or continue after the course — this needs attention rather than an anti-diarrhoeal. Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses. Finish the whole course even after you feel better — stopping early breeds resistant bacteria. Tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe reaction to penicillin; a small proportion of people react to both groups. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Several medicines in this group are on Schedule H1 precisely because overuse drives antibiotic resistance. Take it only when a doctor has prescribed it for you.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store as printed on the carton — some injections need refrigeration and must not be frozen. Keep out of the reach of children.
