Uses & Benefits
Treatment of progesterone deficiency states such as irregular/abnormal uterine bleeding (DUB), secondary amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), luteal phase support and infertility due to luteal insufficiency; support in threatened/recurrent miscarriage due to luteal insufficiency; part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with estrogen to prevent endometrial hyperplasia.
How It Works
Dydrogesterone is a synthetic progestogen that mimics the action of natural progesterone. It transforms the proliferative endometrium into a secretory endometrium, stabilizes the uterine lining and helps regulate the menstrual cycle and support pregnancy in progesterone-deficient states.
Directions for Use
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed; dose and days of cycle depend on the condition (often taken in the luteal phase). Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is near the next dose—do not double dose.
Use only under medical supervision. Rule out pregnancy/ectopic pregnancy and malignancy before treating abnormal uterine bleeding. Use with caution in liver disease, history of depression, thromboembolic disorders, or porphyria; stop and seek care for jaundice, severe headache/vision changes, chest pain, breathlessness, leg swelling/pain, or allergic reaction. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Not a contraceptive. In HRT, should be used with estrogen as directed; risk-benefit assessment is needed for long-term use.
