Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic stable angina, vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s) angina; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events associated with high blood pressure.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle. This lowers peripheral resistance and blood pressure and improves blood flow to the heart, reducing angina symptoms.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice. If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless it is near the next dose.

Ankle/leg swelling (edema), headache, dizziness, flushing, palpitations, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain

Use with caution in severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, heart failure, and liver impairment (may need lower dose). May cause dizziness—avoid driving/operating machinery if affected. Monitor blood pressure regularly; do not discontinue without doctor advice.

CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, ketoconazole/itraconazole, ritonavir) may increase levels; CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect; simvastatin (limit dose as per clinician), other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), grapefruit juice (may increase effect), tacrolimus/cyclosporine (level monitoring).

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
