Used to lower elevated cholesterol levels (hypercholesterolaemia), including primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia; may be used alone or with a statin to reduce LDL-C and total cholesterol.

Ezetimibe selectively inhibits intestinal absorption of cholesterol at the brush border of the small intestine (NPC1L1 transporter). This reduces the delivery of cholesterol to the liver, leading to increased clearance of LDL cholesterol from the blood.

Tablet for oral use. Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed. If taken with a bile acid sequestrant (e.g., cholestyramine), take ezetimibe at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after the sequestrant.

Headache,diarrhoea,abdominal pain,flatulence,fatigue,raised liver enzymes (especially with statins),muscle pain (myalgia)

Use with caution in patients with moderate to severe liver disease; monitor liver function when used with statins. Seek medical advice if unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness occurs (risk increases with statins). Not a substitute for diet and lifestyle changes; continue cholesterol-lowering diet. Inform doctor about history of liver disease, muscle disorders, or use of other lipid-lowering medicines.

Bile acid sequestrants (reduced absorption; separate dosing),cyclosporine (may increase ezetimibe levels; monitor),fibrates esp. gemfibrozil/fenofibrate (increased risk of gallstones/myopathy; caution),warfarin/other coumarin anticoagulants (monitor INR),statins (risk of liver enzyme elevation and myopathy)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
