Monograph
Gentalab 10 ml Eye and Ear Drops Drops is a prescription medicine containing Gentamicin (0.3%w/v) + Chlorpheniramine Maleate (0.1%w/v) + Zinc Sulphate (0.1%w/v). It is used for bacterial infection, gut infection, skin infection, dental infection, allergic rhinitis, hives, skin allergy, itching, allergic asthma, nutritional deficiency, support during recovery and antioxidant supplementation.
Shake the bottle well before each dose and measure it with the cup, spoon or dropper supplied. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Gentalab 10 ml Eye and Ear Drops Drops are nausea, metallic taste, loose motions and stomach pain. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Gentalab 10 ml Eye and Ear Drops Drops works.
Most side effects of Gentalab are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Shake the bottle well before each dose and measure it with the cup, spoon or dropper supplied — a kitchen spoon is not an accurate measure. Take it with or just after food. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
This medicine combines 3 active ingredients: Gentamicin, Chlorpheniramine and Zinc Sulphate. Gentamicin kills or stops the growth of the bacteria causing your infection. Chlorpheniramine blocks the chemical messengers your body releases during an allergic reaction, which relieves sneezing, a running nose, watering eyes and itching. Zinc Sulphate supplies a nutrient that helps protect body cells from everyday oxidative wear and supports normal immune function.
Finish the whole course even after you feel better. Do not drink any alcohol while taking metronidazole, ornidazole or tinidazole, or for the period after the course that your doctor states — the combination causes severe flushing, vomiting and a racing heart. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Tetracyclines stain developing teeth and are avoided in young children and in pregnancy. Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses. Older antihistamines cause marked drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this affects you. Tell your doctor promptly about any change in mood, sleep, agitation or unusual thoughts while taking montelukast; this is uncommon but recognised. This relieves the symptoms of an allergy; it does not treat the cause, and it is not a treatment for an acute asthma attack. Seek emergency care for swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing. A supplement supports a normal diet; it does not prevent or treat infection. Zinc on an empty stomach commonly causes nausea — take it with food. Very high doses of vitamin A over a long period can be harmful, particularly in pregnancy. Do not take several products containing the same nutrient at once; the totals add up.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. It can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. It can cause vomiting, stomach pain and, with some minerals, damage over the longer term. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Once opened, use it within the period printed on the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.
