Used as a nutritional/haematinic supplement to support red blood cell formation and nerve health; commonly used in folate or vitamin B12 deficiency, megaloblastic anemia, and as an adjunct in pregnancy-related supplementation when prescribed.

Products named with “L-FAME” are typically formulations containing L-methylfolate (active folate) with supportive vitamins. L-methylfolate helps in DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation, while vitamin B12 (if present) supports nerve function and works with folate in homocysteine metabolism.

Take orally as directed by the physician, usually once daily. Can be taken with or without food; taking after food may reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Do not self-medicate for anemia without evaluation (iron, B12, folate deficiency need confirmation). Use with caution in patients with history of hypersensitivity to B-vitamins/folate products. High-dose folate can mask vitamin B12 deficiency and allow neurological damage to progress—ensure B12 status is assessed when indicated. Patients with seizure disorders on antiepileptics should consult a doctor.

Antiepileptics (phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone), methotrexate (dose-dependent; folate may reduce toxicity), trimethoprim/pyrimethamine, sulfasalazine, chloramphenicol (may blunt hematologic response), metformin and PPIs (can reduce vitamin B12 levels if present in regimen)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
