Otocin Ear Drops 5 ml

Otocin Ear Drops 5 ml contains Chloramphenicol (5% w/v) + Prednisolone (0.5% w/v) + Acetic acid (2% w/v) + Benzocaine (3% w/v) and is used for ear infection. Prescription required.

Treatment of Ear infection

Otocin-C Ear Drop is a combination of four medicines. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria. It does so by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. This does not directly kill the bacteria, but prevents them from increasing in numbers, and eventually clears up the infection. Prednisolone is a steroid which works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies. Acetic acid belongs to the class of medications called antibacterial and antifungal agents. It works by maintaining the pH thereby preventing the growth of bacteria and fungi. Benzocaine works by blocking pain signals from the peripheral nerves to brain which decreases the sensation of pain. Thus, Otocin-C Ear Drop treats ear infections.

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside ear.

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Do not use if there is a perforated eardrum. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist or worsen.

Avoid using with other ear medications unless directed by a healthcare professional.
