Used to treat high cholesterol (hypercholesterolaemia) and mixed dyslipidaemia; helps reduce risk of heart attack and stroke in people at high cardiovascular risk.

Rosuvastatin is a statin (HMG‑CoA reductase inhibitor) that reduces cholesterol production in the liver. It lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides and can modestly raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol, helping slow plaque build-up in arteries.

Take by mouth once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed by a doctor. Swallow tablet whole with water; continue diet/exercise advice and regular lipid/liver tests as advised.

Headache, muscle pain (myalgia), abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, weakness, dizziness

Prescription-only medicine. Do not use in active liver disease or unexplained persistent rise in liver enzymes. Report muscle pain/weakness, fever or dark urine (risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis); risk is higher with high doses, older age, kidney disease, hypothyroidism, or interacting drugs. Use caution in kidney impairment and in heavy alcohol use; periodic liver function and lipid monitoring recommended.

Cyclosporine (contraindicated/avoid), gemfibrozil and other fibrates, niacin (higher myopathy risk), protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir combinations), warfarin/other coumarin anticoagulants (INR changes), ezetimibe (myopathy risk), colchicine (myopathy risk), antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption; separate dosing)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
