Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke/heart attack in high-risk patients as advised by doctor
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks AT1 receptors, relaxing blood vessels and reducing aldosterone effects, which lowers blood pressure and decreases strain on the heart.
Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, back pain, diarrhea, nausea, low blood pressure, increased potassium (hyperkalemia), raised creatinine
May cause dizziness especially after the first dose—avoid driving if affected. Use with caution in kidney or liver disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, or heart failure. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium. Not recommended in pregnancy (may harm the unborn baby), especially in 2nd/3rd trimester. Use caution if history of angioedema. Avoid potassium supplements/salt substitutes unless prescribed.
Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (higher risk of kidney impairment/hyperkalemia; contraindicated with aliskiren in diabetes), NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, diclofenac) may reduce effect and worsen kidney function, lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), diuretics/alcohol (additive low blood pressure)
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
