Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); may be used to reduce risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in high-risk patients as advised by doctor
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks AT1 receptors. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, back pain, low blood pressure (hypotension), increased potassium (hyperkalemia), increased creatinine
Not recommended in pregnancy (can harm unborn baby); stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in kidney disease, liver impairment, dehydration/low salt states, or heart failure. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium especially after starting or dose changes. Risk of hypotension in volume-depleted patients. Seek urgent care for swelling of face/lips/tongue (angioedema) though rare.
Potassium supplements/salt substitutes and potassium-sparing diuretics (risk of hyperkalemia), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (increased risk of kidney impairment/hyperkalemia; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), NSAIDs (may reduce effect and worsen kidney function), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), diuretics (additive BP lowering), other antihypertensives
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
