Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when single-drug therapy is inadequate; may help reduce risk of heart-related complications associated with uncontrolled BP.

Atenolol is a beta-1 selective beta-blocker that lowers heart rate and cardiac output, reducing blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that increases salt and water excretion, decreasing blood volume and peripheral resistance.

Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; take with food if stomach upset occurs. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; monitor BP regularly.

dizziness, fatigue, slow heart rate (bradycardia), cold hands/feet, headache, nausea, increased urination, electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/low sodium), increased blood sugar, increased uric acid

Not for self-medication. Use with caution in diabetes (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), asthma/COPD (beta-blockers may worsen bronchospasm), peripheral vascular disease, thyroid disorders, and kidney/liver impairment. Avoid abrupt discontinuation (risk of rebound hypertension/angina). Monitor BP, heart rate, electrolytes (especially potassium/sodium), renal function, blood glucose and uric acid. Contraindicated/avoid in severe bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, uncontrolled heart failure, severe hypotension, and known hypersensitivity to components. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected.
