Monograph
Ursvel-300 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Ursodeoxycholic Acid (Ursodiol) 300 mg. It is used for dissolution of cholesterol gallstones (in selected patients), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and cholestatic liver disorders with impaired bile flow (as prescribed). It belongs to the group of medicines called Bile acid (choleretic agent).
Tablet for oral use. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Ursvel-300 mg Tablet are diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and indigestion. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Ursvel-300 mg Tablet works.
Most side effects of Ursvel-300 mg are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with food and a glass of water; dose is based on body weight and indication and may be given in divided doses. Do not crush/chew unless advised; take regularly and do not stop without medical advice.
Ursodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid that reduces cholesterol saturation in bile and decreases cholesterol absorption, helping dissolve cholesterol gallstones. It also improves bile flow and protects liver cells from toxic bile acids in cholestatic liver diseases.
Use only under medical supervision. Not suitable for calcified/radiopaque gallstones, non-functioning gallbladder, acute cholecystitis/cholangitis, or bile duct obstruction. Monitor liver function tests regularly, especially in PBC/long-term therapy. Use with caution in severe liver disease, pancreatitis, and in patients with frequent diarrhea. Seek care for severe abdominal pain, vomiting, jaundice worsening, or allergic reactions.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine may cause loose motions and stomach upset. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.
