Monograph
Voglibose 0.2 mg
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: to control post‑prandial (after meals) blood glucose, usually as add‑on to diet/exercise and/or other antidiabetic medicines.
Voglibose is an alpha‑glucosidase inhibitor that delays digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine. This reduces the rise in blood glucose after meals and helps improve overall glycaemic control.
Oral tablet. Take as prescribed, typically just before the start of each main meal (or with the first bite). Follow diet and exercise advice; do not skip meals if used with other antidiabetics. If a dose is missed, take with the next meal; do not double dose.
Flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea
Use only in type 2 diabetes (not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis). Caution in patients with gastrointestinal disorders (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, chronic intestinal diseases), liver impairment, or elderly. When used with insulin/sulfonylureas, hypoglycaemia may occur—treat low sugar with oral glucose/dextrose (table sugar may be less effective due to delayed sucrose breakdown). Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly; stop and seek medical advice if severe abdominal symptoms occur.
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), other antidiabetic medicines (additive glucose‑lowering), digestive enzyme preparations/intestinal adsorbents (may reduce effect), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics/sympathomimetics (may raise glucose and reduce control)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
