Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to help control blood sugar) when diet and exercise alone are not enough; usually used as add-on therapy.
How It Works
VOGLUS M is likely a combination of an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor (voglibose) with metformin. Voglibose delays carbohydrate absorption from the intestine and reduces post-meal sugar spikes, while metformin decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity.
Directions for Use
Take by mouth as prescribed by your doctor. If it contains voglibose, it is usually taken just before meals/with the first bite to control post-meal glucose; metformin-containing tablets are commonly taken with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating, loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache
Warnings & Precautions
Prescription medicine. Monitor blood glucose regularly. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis (risk higher with kidney disease, severe infection, dehydration, heavy alcohol use, or severe heart/liver disease); seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, or unusual sleepiness. If undergoing contrast (dye) imaging or surgery, metformin may need to be stopped temporarily—consult doctor. Voglibose may cause gas/diarrhoea; start-low/go-slow often helps. Use caution in elderly and in renal/hepatic impairment; dose adjustment/avoidance may be needed. Treat hypoglycaemia with glucose (dextrose) if used with other antidiabetics; sucrose may be less effective if voglibose is present.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk with metformin), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate, acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, rifampicin, other antidiabetics (insulin/sulfonylureas) may increase hypoglycaemia risk, drugs affecting renal function
