Tablet
Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting (antiemetic), including chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV).
Ondansetron is a selective 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptor antagonist. It blocks serotonin receptors in the gut and in the brain’s vomiting center/chemoreceptor trigger zone, reducing nausea and vomiting.
Take as directed by a doctor. Tablet is usually taken with or without food; swallow with water. For prevention, it may be taken before chemotherapy/radiotherapy or before anesthesia; for treatment, take at onset as prescribed.
Headache, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, flushing
Use with caution in patients with heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation), electrolyte imbalance (low potassium/magnesium), severe liver disease (dose adjustment may be needed), or intestinal obstruction. Seek medical help for palpitations, fainting, severe dizziness, or signs of allergic reaction. Do not exceed prescribed dose.
QT-prolonging medicines (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, certain antipsychotics, macrolide antibiotics), serotonergic drugs (SSRIs/SNRIs, MAOIs, tramadol) due to serotonin syndrome risk, apomorphine (contraindicated—severe hypotension/loss of consciousness), other antiarrhythmics
