Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as ear infection (otitis media), throat/tonsil infection (pharyngitis/tonsillitis), sinusitis, bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and skin/soft tissue infections as prescribed by a doctor

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops bacterial growth and helps the immune system clear the infection.

Oral suspension: reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark, shake well before each dose. Give the measured dose once daily as prescribed (often for 3 days). Can be taken with or without food; if stomach upset occurs, take after food. Complete the full course even if you feel better.

Use only for bacterial infections (not viral cold/flu). Do not use if allergic to azithromycin/erythromycin/macrolides. Use with caution in liver disease, history of jaundice with azithromycin, myasthenia gravis, or if you have heart rhythm problems/QT prolongation or low potassium/magnesium. Seek urgent care for severe allergic reaction, severe/persistent diarrhoea (possible C. difficile), or signs of liver injury (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine).

Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (separate dosing), warfarin/other anticoagulants (bleeding risk), digoxin (increased levels), ciclosporin, statins (rare muscle toxicity), other QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, some antipsychotics/fluoroquinolones)

Store the dry powder at room temperature away from moisture and light. After reconstitution, store as per label directions (commonly below 25°C; do not freeze) and use within the specified days; keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
