How It Works
Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic that modulates dopamine (D2) and serotonin (5‑HT2A) receptors in the brain. This helps reduce psychotic symptoms (hallucinations, delusions) and stabilizes mood and behaviour.
Directions for Use
Orally disintegrating tablet: place on the tongue and allow it to dissolve; swallow with saliva (water not necessary). Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily; with or without food. Avoid handling with wet hands; remove from blister only when ready to take.
Prescription-only medicine. May cause significant drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery until you know its effect. Can cause weight gain and metabolic changes (high blood sugar, cholesterol); periodic monitoring of weight, glucose and lipids is advised. Use caution in diabetes, obesity, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, seizures, glaucoma, enlarged prostate/urinary retention. Risk of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (fever, rigidity, confusion) and tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements)—seek urgent care if symptoms occur. Not recommended for dementia-related psychosis in elderly due to increased risk of stroke and death. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
