Induction of ovulation and treatment of anovulatory infertility in women, luteal phase support as prescribed, treatment of male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and stimulation of testosterone/spermatogenesis, cryptorchidism in prepubertal boys (selected cases)
hCG mimics the action of luteinizing hormone (LH). In women it triggers final follicular maturation and ovulation and supports corpus luteum progesterone production. In men it stimulates Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone, aiding spermatogenesis.
For intramuscular or subcutaneous injection only; reconstitute the lyophilized powder with the provided diluent and use immediately as directed by a fertility specialist. Dose and timing depend on the protocol (e.g., given after follicle stimulation to trigger ovulation). Do not self-inject unless trained; follow cycle monitoring advice and scheduled intercourse/IUI/IVF timing.
Injection site pain/redness, headache, fatigue, mood changes/irritability, abdominal pain/bloating, nausea/vomiting, breast tenderness, pelvic discomfort, edema, acne (men), gynecomastia (men)
Use only under specialist supervision with ultrasound/hormonal monitoring. Risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in women—seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, reduced urination. Increased risk of multiple pregnancy. Contraindicated in hormone-dependent tumors (e.g., ovarian/uterine/breast/prostate), primary ovarian failure, uncontrolled thyroid/adrenal disorders, unexplained vaginal bleeding, ovarian cysts not due to PCOS, active thromboembolic disorders. Use caution in PCOS, history of thrombosis, epilepsy, migraine, asthma, cardiac/renal disease. In boys, may cause precocious puberty/early epiphyseal closure; monitor. Not for use during pregnancy once pregnancy is established; do not use for weight loss.
Gonadotropin stimulation regimens (FSH/hMG/menotropins) increase response and OHSS risk; clomiphene/letrozole protocols may increase ovarian response; may interfere with some pregnancy tests (false-positive) shortly after injection. Significant drug-drug interactions otherwise are not commonly reported.
Store refrigerated at 2–8°C; protect from light. Do not freeze. After reconstitution, use immediately (or within the time advised in labeling); discard any unused solution.
