How Afebrex Syrup works

If it contains paracetamol (common in pediatric antipyretic syrups), it lowers fever by acting on the temperature-regulating center in the brain and reduces pain by decreasing prostaglandin production. Exact mechanism depends on the confirmed active ingredient(s).

How to take Afebrex Syrup

Oral syrup. Shake well before use and measure with a calibrated spoon/cup/dropper. Dose is usually based on child’s weight/age; give at the interval advised by the doctor. Can be taken with or without food; give with food/milk if stomach upset occurs.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Afebrex as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Afebrex than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Afebrex Syrup

Most side effects of Afebrex are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Do not exceed the recommended dose or use multiple medicines containing the same antipyretic/analgesic (e.g., paracetamol) together. Seek medical advice if fever persists >3 days, pain persists >5 days, child is very drowsy, has breathing difficulty, dehydration, or rash/swelling. Use with caution in liver disease, severe kidney disease, malnutrition, or dehydration. Accidental overdose can cause serious liver injury—seek urgent care.

Interactions with other medicines
