Alcipro 250 contains Ciprofloxacin (250mg). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic class of medicines.

How Alcipro 250 works

Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This blocks DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

How to take Alcipro 250

Take orally exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow whole with water; can be taken with or without food, but avoid taking with milk/dairy products or calcium-fortified juices alone. Do not take at the same time as antacids or mineral supplements (keep a 2–6 hour gap). Complete the full course even if you feel better.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Alcipro 250mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Alcipro 250

Most side effects of Alcipro are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• photosensitivity
• altered taste

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antibiotic. Use only for bacterial infections; misuse can cause resistance. Risk of tendinitis/tendon rupture (higher in elderly and with corticosteroids), peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (seizures, confusion), QT prolongation/arrhythmias, blood sugar disturbances, and severe diarrhea due to C. difficile. Avoid excessive sun/UV exposure. Use with caution in epilepsy/seizure disorders, myasthenia gravis, kidney disease, and patients with heart rhythm problems. Not recommended in pregnancy/breastfeeding unless doctor advises; generally avoid routine use in children/adolescents due to effects on joints/cartilage unless benefits outweigh risks.

Do not take Alcipro if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids containing magnesium/aluminium, sucralfate, iron/zinc/calcium supplements (reduced absorption), dairy/calcium products (reduced absorption), warfarin (increased bleeding risk), theophylline (toxicity risk), tizanidine (contraindicated—severe hypotension/sedation), QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, macrolides, antipsychotics), corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk), antidiabetic medicines/insulin (hypo/hyperglycemia), NSAIDs (increased seizure risk)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Your doctor has prescribed Alcipro 250mg Tablet to cure your infection and improve symptoms. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Discontinue Alcipro 250mg Tablet and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn't stop or if you find blood in your stools. Notify your doctor if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
