Amitriptyline hydrochloride 25 mg (tablet)
Depression, neuropathic (nerve) pain, migraine/tension-type headache prevention, anxiety symptoms (as prescribed), insomnia associated with depression (off-label)
Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases levels of serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain by inhibiting their reuptake. It also modulates pain pathways, which helps in chronic nerve pain and headache prevention.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at bedtime (may cause drowsiness). Can be taken with or without food; take with food if stomach upset occurs. Do not stop suddenly—dose should be tapered on medical advice.
Common side effects of AMITRIP 25MG may include:
May cause sedation and impair driving/operating machinery. Risk of suicidal thoughts in young adults, especially when starting or changing dose. Avoid abrupt discontinuation (withdrawal symptoms). Use with caution in heart disease/arrhythmias, recent heart attack, glaucoma, urinary retention/prostatic enlargement, seizures, bipolar disorder, liver disease, elderly (falls/confusion). Seek urgent care for severe mood changes, serotonin syndrome symptoms, or allergic reactions.
