Amoxicillin 600 mg + Clavulanic acid 42.9 mg per 5 ml (oral suspension)
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute otitis media, acute bacterial sinusitis, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, community-acquired pneumonia/bronchitis, skin and soft tissue infections, and urinary tract infections.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic breakdown, extending its antibacterial spectrum.
Oral suspension: Shake well before each dose. Use a measuring cup/syringe. Usually given with food to reduce stomach upset. Reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark as per label and complete the full prescribed course; dose and duration as advised by the doctor (commonly weight-based in children).
Common side effects of AUGPEN ES SUSPENSION may include:
Prescription-only antibiotic. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or history of severe hypersensitivity. Use with caution in hepatic impairment; discontinue and seek care if jaundice, severe rash, or persistent diarrhoea occurs (risk of C. difficile diarrhoea). Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment. Not for viral infections; inappropriate use can cause resistance.
