How Betadine 10% Solution works

Povidone-iodine slowly releases free iodine on the skin. Iodine penetrates microorganisms and inactivates proteins and enzymes, killing a broad range of bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa.

How to take Betadine 10% Solution

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer of ointment 1-3 times daily or as advised by a doctor; may be covered with sterile gauze. Avoid use with tight occlusive dressings unless advised. Wash hands after application; avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Betadine 10% Solution, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not apply extra to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from skin use, but swallowing an antiseptic is dangerous and needs immediate medical attention. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
