Cefpodoxime proxetil 50 mg/5 mL (oral suspension)
Bacterial infections such as ear infection (otitis media), throat/tonsil infections, sinusitis, chest infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, and skin/soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria
Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective only against bacterial (not viral) infections.
Oral suspension: Shake well before each dose. Measure dose with a calibrated spoon/cup as prescribed (often weight-based in children). Can be taken with food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.

A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Cepodem 50MG Sus 30ML. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Use only for confirmed/suspected bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to cefpodoxime/cephalosporins; use caution in penicillin allergy due to possible cross-reactivity. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Prolonged use may cause superinfection (e.g., fungal) and antibiotic-associated diarrhoea; seek care for severe/persistent diarrhoea or blood in stools (possible C. difficile). Inform doctor if history of colitis. Stop and seek urgent help if signs of severe allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty, severe rash).
