Composition of Domstal Suspension

Domstal Suspension contains Domperidone 5 mg/5 ml (oral suspension). It belongs to the Dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist (prokinetic) class of medicines.

How Domstal Suspension works

Domperidone is a dopamine (D2) receptor antagonist with prokinetic and antiemetic action. It increases gastric motility and accelerates stomach emptying, and blocks dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone to reduce nausea and vomiting.

How to take Domstal Suspension

Oral suspension. Shake well before use. Take the prescribed dose using a measuring cup/spoon, usually 15–30 minutes before meals; may be taken before bedtime if advised. Dose and duration should be as directed by the doctor (especially in children).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Domstal as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Domstal than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Domstal Suspension

Most side effects of Domstal are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Dry mouth
• headache
• dizziness
• abdominal cramps
• diarrhea
• nausea
• increased prolactin levels
• breast tenderness/galactorrhea

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Domstal Suspension

Warnings and precautions

Prescription (Schedule H) medicine. Do not use if you have known allergy to domperidone, gastrointestinal bleeding/obstruction/perforation, or prolactin-secreting pituitary tumor (prolactinoma). Use with caution in liver impairment; dose adjustment/avoidance may be needed. Domperidone may prolong QT interval and cause serious heart rhythm problems; use lowest effective dose for shortest duration, especially in older adults or those with heart disease, electrolyte imbalance, or taking QT-prolonging medicines. Seek urgent care for palpitations, fainting, or irregular heartbeat.

Interactions with other medicines

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole, clarithromycin, erythromycin, ritonavir) increase domperidone levels and QT risk; other QT-prolonging drugs (amiodarone, sotalol, quinolones, antipsychotics) increase arrhythmia risk; anticholinergics may reduce prokinetic effect; antacids/acid suppressants may reduce absorption if taken together (separate dosing).

Store below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
