How Ecorab works

Ecorab Tablet is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

How to take Ecorab

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ecorab Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause confusion, blurred vision, sweating and a fast heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Ecorab are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Take it on an empty stomach, about half an hour to an hour before your first meal — this is when the acid pumps are most active and the medicine works best. Long-term use has been linked to low magnesium and low vitamin B12, and to a higher risk of bone fracture. Review the need with your doctor rather than continuing indefinitely. Tell your doctor if acidity comes with difficulty swallowing, vomiting, weight loss, or black stools — these need investigation, not a longer course. Do not stop a long course abruptly; acid can rebound. Your doctor will taper it.

Do not take Ecorab if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Reduces the absorption of some antifungals, iron and certain HIV medicines. Tell your doctor if you take clopidogrel, methotrexate or a blood thinner.

How to store Ecorab

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
