How Foracort Forte R/C works

FORAcort Forte Rotacap is a combination of two medicines: Formoterol and Budesonide. Formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator which works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens the airways. Budesonide is a steroid. It works by stopping the release of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (swelling) of the airways. Together, they make breathing easier.

How to take Foracort Forte R/C

Rotacaps must not be swallowed. Check the label for directions before use. Place the capsule at the base of rotahaler, not in the mouthpiece. Twist the mouthpiece completely until your hear a click and breathe in deeply through the mouthpiece. Hold your breath for up to 10 seconds. If some powder remains in the rotahaler repeat the process.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of FORAcort Forte Rotacap, use it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, marked tremor, headache and a fall in blood potassium. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Foracort Forte R/C are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Know which of your inhalers is the reliever and which is the preventer. A preventer must be used every day even when you feel well; a reliever is for symptoms. Seek emergency care if your reliever is not working, if you cannot speak a full sentence, or if you are using the reliever far more often than usual. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after every steroid inhaler dose to prevent thrush and hoarseness. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to watch your technique — poor technique is the commonest reason an inhaler seems not to work. Use a spacer if one has been advised, particularly for children.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta blockers, including eye drops for glaucoma, can tighten the airways and reduce the effect of your reliever.

How to store Foracort Forte R/C

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Foracort Forte R/C

It contains two medicines in one inhaler for control of long term asthma and COPD symptoms. It does not relieve sudden symptoms. Always use a rescue inhaler to treat sudden symptoms. Tell your doctor immediately if your breathing problem worsens, or if rescue inhaler does not relieve symptoms. Do not discontinue unless advised by your doctor. Rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent infections in the mouth and throat. Carry your rescue inhaler wherever you go.
