Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Glador M 3 Forte contains Glimepiride 3 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg (Sustained Release). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide (SR combination) class of medicines.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are not enough; helps control high blood sugar and improves glycaemic control (often in patients needing combination therapy).
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release insulin. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood sugar levels.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with/after meals (preferably with the main meal) to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole; do not crush/chew if SR. Monitor blood glucose regularly.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Glador M as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Glador M than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Glador M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, excessive exercise); lactic acidosis is a rare but serious risk with metformin—seek urgent care for fast breathing, severe weakness, drowsiness, abdominal pain. Avoid/use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment and periodic renal function monitoring required. Use caution in liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, severe infection, or before major surgery. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast procedures as advised by doctor. Do not use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia), cimetidine (raises metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (kidney injury/lactic acidosis risk), NSAIDs and salicylates (may enhance hypoglycaemia)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
