Composition of Glimevel-M1 Tablet

Glimevel-M1 Tablet contains Glimepiride 1 mg + Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (sustained/modified release). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (adult) when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with diet and exercise; used as add-on/combination therapy to improve glycaemic control

How Glimevel-M1 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and decreases intestinal glucose absorption while improving insulin sensitivity.

How to take Glimevel-M1 Tablet

Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily with or just after meals (commonly breakfast) to reduce stomach upset and risk of low sugar. Swallow tablet whole; do not crush/chew if sustained/modified release. Follow diet/exercise plan and monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Glimevel-M1 Tablet

Most side effects of Glimevel-M1 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain
• metallic taste

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (more likely with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly, renal/hepatic impairment); carry fast-acting glucose. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, unusual muscle pain, abdominal discomfort, or drowsiness. Use with caution/avoid in severe kidney disease; dose adjustment and periodic renal function monitoring required. Temporarily stop metformin during severe dehydration, serious infection, surgery, or before/after iodinated contrast procedures as advised by doctor. Caution in liver disease, heart failure, and in patients prone to hypoglycaemia. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Do not take Glimevel-M1 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids/diuretics/sympathomimetics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs and sulfonamides (may increase hypoglycaemia), rifampicin (reduces effect), azole antifungals/macrolides (increase sulfonylurea effect), iodinated contrast media (metformin—lactic acidosis risk), cimetidine (increases metformin levels)

How to store Glimevel-M1 Tablet

Store below 25°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glimevel-M1 Tablet

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
