Glimicure 4 Tablet contains Glimepiride (4mg). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea class of medicines.

How Glimicure 4 Tablet works

Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. It also helps improve the body’s response to insulin, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.

How to take Glimicure 4 Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow whole with water; do not skip meals after taking to reduce risk of low blood sugar.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you missed a a dose of Glimicure 4mg Tablet, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Glimicure 4 Tablet

Most side effects of Glimicure are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• weight gain
• skin rash

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia—more likely with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol intake, elderly patients, kidney/liver impairment or with interacting medicines. Use with caution in renal/hepatic disease; periodic monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is advised. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Inform doctor if you have G6PD deficiency (risk of haemolysis) or if undergoing surgery/acute illness (dose adjustments may be needed).

Do not take Glimicure if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antidiabetics/insulin (increased hypoglycaemia), alcohol (may increase hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics (may increase blood glucose), azole antifungals (e.g., fluconazole), macrolides, sulfonamides, salicylates (may increase effect), rifampicin/phenytoin (may reduce effect).

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glimicure 4 Tablet

Take Glimicure 4mg Tablet shortly before or with the first main meal of the day (usually breakfast). Exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet and take your other diabetes medicines (if prescribed) alongside. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking Glimicure 4mg Tablet. Glimicure 4mg Tablet can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Be careful while driving or operating machinery until you know how Glimicure 4mg Tablet affects you. Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor and anxiety. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms, such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
