Glimepiride 1 mg + Sitagliptin 50 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (usually as sustained/extended-release; check pack label)
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (in adults) to improve blood sugar control when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient
Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release insulin. Sitagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) increases incretin hormones, enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon. Metformin decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, reducing intestinal glucose absorption.
Take orally exactly as prescribed. Typically taken once daily with a main meal (often breakfast) to reduce stomach upset and risk of low sugar; swallow whole (do not crush/chew if SR/ER). Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.
Common side effects of GLIMIPREX SM 1/50/500MG TAB may include:
Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, heavy exercise, elderly, kidney/liver disease); metformin-associated lactic acidosis is rare but serious—seek urgent care for fast breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness; avoid/use with caution in renal impairment—dose adjustment and periodic kidney function tests needed; temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised by doctor; sitagliptin may rarely cause pancreatitis—report severe persistent abdominal pain; use caution in hepatic impairment; not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
