Glimiscore-M 0.5 Tablet contains Glimepiride 0.5 mg + Metformin hydrochloride (strength unknown). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

How Glimiscore-M 0.5 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and decreases intestinal glucose absorption while improving insulin sensitivity.

How to take Glimiscore-M 0.5 Tablet

Take orally as advised by a doctor, preferably with meals to reduce stomach upset and risk of low sugar. Swallow tablet whole with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise plan.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Glimiscore-M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (more likely with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol, elderly, or kidney/liver impairment). Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, unusual sleepiness, or abdominal discomfort. Use with caution/avoid in severe renal impairment, severe liver disease, dehydration, severe infection, hypoxia, or alcoholism. Temporarily stop metformin before and after iodinated contrast studies or major surgery as advised. Regularly monitor kidney function, liver function, and vitamin B12 with long-term use.

Do not take Glimiscore-M if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may enhance hypoglycaemia), fluoroquinolones (glucose disturbances), rifampicin (reduces effect), azole antifungals and macrolides (may increase sulfonylurea effect), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk with metformin), cimetidine (increases metformin levels)

How to store Glimiscore-M 0.5 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
