Itzoft 100 mg Capsule contains Itraconazole 100 mg capsules. It belongs to the Azole antifungal (triazole) class of medicines.

How Itzoft 100 mg Capsule works

Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal CYP450-dependent 14-α-demethylase, blocking ergosterol synthesis. This disrupts fungal cell membrane formation and inhibits fungal growth.

How to take Itzoft 100 mg Capsule

Capsule (oral): Take exactly as prescribed, usually once or twice daily. Take with food/after a full meal for better absorption; swallow whole and do not crush or chew. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, liver injury and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Itzoft 100 mg Capsule

Most side effects of Itzoft are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antifungal. May cause liver injury—seek medical help if jaundice, dark urine, severe fatigue, or persistent nausea occurs; monitor LFTs if prolonged use. Not recommended in patients with heart failure/ventricular dysfunction (negative inotrope risk). Avoid in pregnancy unless clearly needed; use effective contraception during and for a period after therapy as advised. Avoid use in severe liver disease unless supervised. Itraconazole absorption is reduced by acid-suppressing medicines; take as directed if needed.

Do not take Itzoft if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with active liver disease, and several are not for use in pregnancy. Itraconazole is not for people with heart failure.

Interactions with other medicines

Strong CYP3A4 interactions: contraindicated/avoid with simvastatin/lovastatin, midazolam/triazolam (oral), ergot alkaloids, certain antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, dofetilide), cisapride, pimozide. Levels affected by rifampicin/rifabutin, phenytoin, carbamazepine (reduce effect). Increases levels of warfarin, digoxin, cyclosporine/tacrolimus, some calcium channel blockers, benzodiazepines, and sulfonylureas. Reduced absorption with PPIs/H2 blockers/antacids.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Complete the full course, however long. Keep the skin clean and dry, wash clothes and bedding in hot water, and treat family members if they are affected, or reinfection is very likely.
