Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Ketovate Cream 20 g contains Ketoconazole 2% w/w + Clobetasol propionate 0.05% w/w cream. It belongs to the Imidazole antifungal + super-potent topical corticosteroid class of medicines.
Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits ergosterol synthesis, damaging the fungal cell membrane and stopping fungal growth. Clobetasol is a super‑potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness and itching by suppressing local immune and inflammatory mediators.
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily as advised by the doctor; clean and dry the area before application. Use for the shortest duration prescribed; avoid occlusive dressings unless told. Wash hands after use and avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Ketovate as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Ketovate than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Ketovate are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Contains a super‑potent steroid (clobetasol); prolonged or excessive use can cause skin thinning, stretch marks, steroid acne, and may suppress adrenal function especially on large areas, under occlusion, or in children. Do not use on face, groin, or armpits unless specifically prescribed; avoid use on acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or viral lesions (herpes/chickenpox). Not for ophthalmic use; avoid eyes. If no improvement in 1–2 weeks or symptoms worsen, consult a doctor; inappropriate use may mask/worsen fungal infection (tinea incognito). Use with caution in children and during breastfeeding; do not apply on breast/nipple area.
No major systemic interactions expected with topical use; avoid combining on the same area with other potent topical steroids, irritant keratolytics, or other topical antifungals/antibiotics unless prescribed. Increased systemic steroid effects possible if used with occlusion or on large areas.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.
