Lamotrigine 50 mg (dispersible tablet)
Epilepsy (partial and generalized seizures, including Lennox–Gastaut syndrome), Bipolar disorder (maintenance treatment to prevent mood episodes)
Lamotrigine is an antiepileptic medicine that stabilizes neuronal membranes by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. This reduces excessive release of excitatory neurotransmitters (e.g., glutamate) and helps control seizures and mood swings.
Dispersible tablet: take exactly as prescribed. It may be dispersed in a small amount of water and swallowed immediately, or swallowed whole with water. Can be taken with or without food. Dose is usually started low and increased gradually; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Common side effects of LAMETEC 50 DT may include:
Serious skin reactions (SJS/TEN) can occur, especially in the first 2–8 weeks or with rapid dose escalation; stop and seek urgent care if rash, blistering, mouth sores, fever or facial swelling occurs. Risk increases with valproate co-use. Monitor for suicidal thoughts/behavior and mood changes. Do not discontinue abruptly (may worsen seizures). Use caution in liver or kidney disease. May cause dizziness/blurred vision—avoid driving if affected.
