How Mefkind Spas Tablet works

This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Dicyclomine and Mefenamic Acid. Dicyclomine relaxes the muscle in the wall of the gut, relieving the cramping pain of a spasm. Mefenamic Acid blocks the chemicals your body makes at a site of injury or inflammation, which reduces pain, swelling and fever.

Missed dose and overdose

Take it with or just after food, and for the shortest time that works. Long or high-dose use raises the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney injury, particularly in older people and those already at risk. Avoid if you are dehydrated or have an illness with vomiting or loose motions — the kidneys are vulnerable then. Must be avoided in the last three months of pregnancy.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with glaucoma, urinary retention, or a blockage of the gut. Not for people with an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or heart failure, or asthma triggered by aspirin or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Not in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Adds to the dry mouth, constipation and drowsiness caused by antihistamines and some antidepressants. Combining with a blood thinner or aspirin sharply raises the bleeding risk. Reduces the effect of blood pressure medicines and water tablets, and together with them can harm the kidneys. Never take two anti-inflammatory painkillers at the same time.
