Composition of Okacet Tablet

Okacet Tablet contains Levocetirizine (5mg). It belongs to the Second-generation H1 antihistamine class of medicines.

How Okacet Tablet works

Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that selectively blocks H1 histamine receptors. This reduces allergy symptoms like itching, sneezing, runny nose and hives with relatively less sedation than older antihistamines.

How to take Okacet Tablet

Oral tablet. Usually taken once daily; may be taken with or without food. Swallow with water; take at the same time each day. Dose may need adjustment in kidney impairment—use as advised by a doctor.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Okacet-L Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Okacet Tablet

Most side effects of Okacet are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• headache
• dizziness
• nausea
• sore throat

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause sleepiness in some people—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed) and in severe liver impairment. Caution in people with urinary retention/prostatic enlargement. Stop and seek medical help if allergic reaction occurs. Not meant for acute anaphylaxis.

Do not take Okacet if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased drowsiness), sedatives/benzodiazepines (additive sedation), opioids (additive sedation). Clinically significant interactions are uncommon, but inform your doctor about all medicines.

How to store Okacet Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Your doctor has prescribed Okacet-L Tablet to help relieve allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes. Compared to other similar medications, it is much less likely to make you feel sleepy. Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration, as it can cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication as it may cause increased sleepiness. Stop taking Okacet-L Tablet at least three days before taking an allergy test as it can affect the test results.
