Osil Cream is used for piles.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Osil Cream contains Allantoin (0.5% w/w) + Calcium Dobesilate (0.5% w/w) + Hydrocortisone (0.25% w/w) + Lidocaine/Lignocaine (3% w/w). It belongs to the Moisturiser / skin barrier repair, Gut protective / probiotic, Systemic corticosteroid and First-aid agent class of medicines.
Piles
Osil Cream is a combination of four medicines: Allantoin , Calcium Dobesilate , Hydrocortisone , and Lidocaine/Lignocaine. Allantoin is a skin protectant that works like a moisturizer to soften skin. Calcium Dobesilate is a vasoprotective medicine which works on the walls of the small blood vessels and reduces their leakage and fragility. It also improves blood flow by decreasing viscosity/thickness of blood, thereby relieving inflammation (redness and swelling) in piles/haemorrhoids and promoting healing. Hydrocortisone is a steroid which reduces redness, itching, and swelling due to piles/haemorrhoids. Lidocaine/Lignocaine is a local anesthetic which works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain thereby decreasing the sensation of pain.
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Osil Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine is not a realistic risk from a moisturiser used on the skin. It may cause bloating and loose motions. It can cause weight gain, high blood sugar, bone thinning and suppression of the body's own steroid production when it is taken over a prolonged period. It is unlikely from external use. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Most side effects of Osil are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Apply generously and often — several times a day, and always within a few minutes of a bath while the skin is still damp. Some paraffin-based emollients are flammable when they soak into clothing and bedding. Keep away from open flames and cigarettes. Stop if the skin becomes more red, itchy or sore after use. Loose motions with high fever, blood in the stool or severe abdominal pain need a doctor, not a home remedy. Oral rehydration salts and fluids matter more than any medicine when you have loose motions — dehydration is the real danger, especially in children and older people. Take a probiotic a couple of hours apart from an antibiotic so the antibiotic does not simply kill it. Do not use an anti-motility medicine such as loperamide if you have a fever or blood in the stool. Never stop a course of more than a few days suddenly. Your body stops making its own steroid while you take these, and abrupt withdrawal can cause a dangerous collapse. Your doctor will taper the dose. Tell any doctor treating you that you take steroids, and say so urgently if you develop a serious infection, injury or need surgery — you may need a higher dose to cope. Steroids raise blood sugar. If you have diabetes, monitor it more closely during a course. Long-term use thins bones, raises the risk of infection, cataract and glaucoma. Your doctor will monitor and may add bone protection. Chickenpox and measles can be severe in people on steroids — seek advice promptly after any contact. For external use only, unless the pack says otherwise. See a doctor for a deep, dirty or heavily bleeding wound, an animal bite, or any wound showing signs of infection. Check that your tetanus cover is current after any dirty or penetrating wound.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Probiotics are used with caution in people whose immune system is significantly suppressed. Not for people with an untreated systemic infection, except where the steroid is part of the treatment. Not for use on large burns or deep wounds without medical advice.
No significant interactions are expected. Antibiotics reduce the effect of probiotics taken at the same time. Anti-inflammatory painkillers together with steroids markedly raise the risk of stomach bleeding. Live vaccines are generally avoided during significant steroid treatment.
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Some probiotic preparations ask to be refrigerated — follow the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.
Osil Cream is for administration into the back passage (rectum). It must not be taken by mouth. Do not use it more often or for longer than advised by your doctor, as that can increase the chances of side effects. Use the applicator provided to insert a measured dose of cream into your back passage. Avoid getting it in the eyes, mouth or nose. Rinse with cold water if you accidentally get it in these areas. Inform your doctor if you get any signs of infection during treatment with this medicine.
