Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Oxcef Dry Syrup contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil (50mg) + Clavulanic Acid (31.25mg). It belongs to the Cephalosporin antibiotic (likely) class of medicines.
This dry syrup likely contains a cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. It works only against bacterial infections, not viral illnesses like common cold or flu.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Most side effects of Oxcef Dry are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Consult doctor |

| Alcohol | No known interaction |
| Kidney | Kidney SAFE IF PRESCRIBED |
| Liver | Liver SAFE IF PRESCRIBED |
| Habit forming | No |
Prescription-only antibiotic—use only on medical advice. Do not use in patients with known allergy to cephalosporins; use caution with history of penicillin allergy. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed). Stop and seek care if severe diarrhoea, blood in stools, severe rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or signs of allergy occur. Prolonged use may cause fungal overgrowth or antibiotic-associated colitis.
Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) may increase bleeding risk/INR, probenecid may increase antibiotic levels, live oral typhoid vaccine may be less effective, other nephrotoxic drugs (e.g., aminoglycosides, high-dose diuretics) may increase kidney risk (depending on the antibiotic).
Store the dry powder at room temperature, protected from moisture and light. After reconstitution, store as directed on label (commonly refrigerated or at room temperature) and use within the stated days; do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
Complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Oxcef-O CV Dry Syrup may cause a bitter taste. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Oxcef-O CV Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Oxcef-O CV Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Stop Oxcef-O CV Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay. You have been prescribed this combination medicine to treat bacterial infections even if they have developed resistance. Take it with food and plenty of fluids to avoid an upset stomach. Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Taking probiotics along with Oxcef-O CV Dry Syrup may help. Talk to your doctor if you notice bloody stools or develop abdominal cramps. Stop taking Oxcef-O CV Dry Syrup and inform your doctor immediately if you develop an itchy rash, swelling of the face, throat or tongue or breathing difficulties while taking it.
